Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice

General Description:

UPJS – Pavol Jozef Safarik University is the second-largest classical Slovak university with a strong focus on R&D and strong collaboration with industry. Individual laboratories from UPJS have participated in FP5, FP6, FP7, H2020 and HEU projects. UPJS provides 3 grade education according to The Bologna Declaration on the European space for higher education, embodied in acts No.131/2002 in the Collection of Acts on higher education institutions, together with its changes and supplements dealing with science, mathematics and informatics, as well as with teachership of the mentioned academic disciplines.

The UPJS has built up a very good research potential with adequate qualified employees. In recent years, UPJŠ and its faculties have seen a remarkable enhancement of quality of services for both students and employees of the university. Also, most of its research and training laboratories have undergone fundamental renovation and upgrade and the university and faculty workplaces have been furnished with science and research infrastructure matching top international standards. The advanced instrumentation and material and technical provisions available to the facilities of UPJŠ and its faculties with their skilled staff guarantee a high quality of education delivered in the university programs, enhanced international competitiveness and further progress of the University in the future.

Institute of Chemistry – Department of Physical Chemistry meets research, educational and tutorial function in the field of physical chemistry, electrochemistry, material chemistry and nanotechnology. Research focus is the preparation and characterization of different components for Li-S and Li-ion batteries, redox flow batteries, electrochemical deposition of functional nanostructured layers for sensing and analytical applications and biomedicine as well as with the production of sintered metallic materials.

Responsibility in the project:

UPJS will be the project coordinator. Also, we will ensure communication with the project partners and the ministry. Moreover, it will integrate the developed self-healing materials (cathodes, electrolytes, binders) into the small testing cell and perform the electrochemical and degradation test of synthesized samples. Also organic synthesis of novel electrolytes for redox flow batteries and its characterization will be done by UPJS. Fundamental characterization of base materials will be done by UPJS. Also, simulation of redox flow battery components and electrochemical testing will be partially done by UPJS.
